Nice one!

This is a very well-done remix. Brings back such memories - avoiding all the kamikaze enemies, gliding to that lone island with the purple gem, and getting my @$$ handed to me by the doctor himself. I've always thought that the best video game remixes are ones that invoke memories of playing the game.

A couple of things I would change: the percussion in some parts (I'm not sure which drum you used) was almost like a slap in the face. I might make it less prominent. The tempo was a tad slow.

What really sells this is the parts with the lovely, robust sounds of the low piano, when that comes in. Anyway, keep up the good work!

Thanks for the review! I agree, percussion has definitely been one of my weak points in my songs. In the future I'll be sure to make more complex percussion that's easier on the ears. Be sure to keep an eye out for more Spyro remixes from me in the future!

Man, what can I say? Nothing bad about it, that's for sure. You took an awesome song and made it... awesome-er! Everything - the instruments, the melody and harmony, the rhythm - everything - is spot on. Keep it up!

A good problem to have...

The problem you face is how to improve on a track that was already one of the most awesome game songs ever in its original form. Did you actually improve on it? I'm not sure. Heck, I don't know if it's possible to improve on it. That's not to say it's not excellent; it definitely does the original justice, with visions of Spore Spawn and Super Missiles dancing in my head through the whole thing.

So what if you didn't make any huge changes to the song? Sometimes a cover is actually a better option (but to say that this is "just" a cover is like saying that the Pacific Ocean is "just" a body of water).

Nice one.

Good Lord, this brings back memories, both pleasant and unpleasant, from the Nightmare battle in Fusion. That guy really screwed me over more than once.

The song is good. I really like the piano, when it's there. My only [small] issue with it is that there seems to be too much going on at once for my taste. But I'm probably just being a stick in the mud. This is an excellent mix.

You make me want to go play Chrono Trigger.

Frog is my favorite character in Chrono Trigger, his theme is my favorite track from Chrono Trigger, and this is quite possibly the best remix of it I've ever heard. Great instruments, great arrangement, great... well, everything!

Nice job.

CandySoup responds:

Great review man, Thanks :)

Getting pancaked by a giant rolling rock...

Ah, good times. Good times.

The Boulders levels will always be the hardest in my book, topping even the likes of Slippery Climb and Sunset Vista.

More to the point, you did a nice job of making the [anti-]nostalgia rush back into my head. I might have chosen a slightly different instrument for the main melody, perhaps something a little closer to the original. But it's still a nice sound. Good job!

ReFreezed responds:

Good times indeed.

I always found the hog riding levels to be the hardest, but the boulders levels are pretty hard too.

Hahaha! You should listen to my older remix of this song (http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/list en/186697). The chimes I used there were a bit disliked. :P Anyway, thanks a lot for the review! (And sorry for the very late response.)

Great Shades of Elvis!

Whoa, but that is one mighty fine remix. Excellent choice of instruments, true to the original melody, and overall a joy to listen to.

You got a 5/5 from me.

Smiles all over for this one.

It took a while for the background sounds to kick in, but once they did, the nostalgia hit me like a freight train. For that, I give you

It's...

Cool. There's just no better word to describe the song. Cool instruments, cool upbeat rhythm, cool song.

Great.

I can't say I ever cared much for SML, but your rendition of the theme is excellent and brings a great sound to a classic song. Good work!

4/5 + 9/10

giftedbuttwisted responds:

I love SML haha

I write music. Some good, some bad, some okay. The stuff that I don't find completely sucky can be found here.
